About:
Pat’s career in publishing and journalism began at the Greenfield Recorder, moved on to the Worcester Telegram and finished at The New York Times, where she was an editor and writer in the Culture Department. In Washington, D.C., she was a rare book librarian at the Folger Shakespeare Library and edited publications there and at the National Academy of Sciences. In Deerfield, Pat was a charter member, and later president, of the citizens group Deerfield for Responsible Development. She is a member of the Massachusetts Cultural Council of Deerfield and various societies for journalists and writers. She is excited to be editing Deerfield Currents.

Favorite Deerfield Spaces:
>Our house on the hill, with its prime-time view of the western sky, where Tim Hilchey and I watch the performances of clouds, trees, flowers and our garden.
>The downtown campus, notably the expanded Tilton Library, the Meeting House and the new 1888 Town Hall.
>Old Main Street for walking, checking sycamores and post office and happenings at Historic Deerfield and PVMA.
>Bittersweet Bakery & Cafe and Leo’s Table.
>Long River Produce Market and the farm stands.

Why Engage:Deerfield Matters:
It matters because informed participation is how we can channel community interests into action. With Community Conversations and Deerfield Currents, the Engage group aspires to be a trustworthy source of information about how the gears turn in our local government, how more voices can be heard, how needs can be met and how we can go forward together. There’s much to learn and many ways to enjoy the learning.
